Manager, Enterprise Architecture

Lead the process to develop long-term IT organizational strategy. Direct key technology initiatives that support progressing towards the future state architecture defined in the NYISO IT Strategic Plan. The department provides technical consulting and engineering assistance to production teams on an ad-hoc basis. In addition to supporting existing processes and projects, the department identifies and assesses emerging technologies and determines applicability to the NYISO environment and facilitates the governance of the principles guiding the future state architecture. 

This work requires applying business acumen, assuming risk, making decisions, acting as organizational change agent and building consensus across the organization without violating cultural values. Regularly communicate with NYISO C-level executives and market participants regarding IT technology strategy, industry technology trends, and IT governance matters. Provide business updates and / or applicable technology briefings for members of Board of Directors, as requested. Act as talent agent to create career paths to benefit staff and organization; develop training and mentoring opportunities within the functions managed and across multiple related disciplines to support talent growth.

Specific Responsibilities:
  • Formulate organizational technical architecture and technology strategies in concert with the VP & CIO, CEO and senior executives to meet short-, mid- and long-term corporate goals and objectives. Build consensus around proposed plans among key stakeholders applying business acumen and political savvy.
  • Utilize and allocate internal and external resources to facilitate the transformation of those strategies into effective IT systems and policies for the organization. Work with staff to overcome obstacles and improve departmental outcomes.
  • Based on forecasts of business demands, anticipate problems and synthesize appropriate IT solutions, providing leadership and support to effectively implement solutions.
  • Direct the identification and evaluation of new and emerging technologies and recommends strategic technical architectural initiatives best suited to organizational functions and goals.
  • Provide motivation and supervision to staff in the completion of complex assignments that support present and future needs of NYISO's technical architecture. Act as talent agent to create career paths to benefit staff and organization; develop training and mentoring opportunities within the functions managed and across multiple related disciplines to support talent growth.
  • Use business knowledge and technical expertise to provide technical advice and engineering assistance to NYISO management and staff.
  • Actively lead and participate in cross-organization information technology architecture and standardization initiatives.
  • In cooperation with the contracts management, create requests for proposal (RFPs), evaluate vendor proposals and manage complex projects relative to all aspects of NYISO's technical architecture.
Experience/Skills:
  • 10 years progressively more complex experience including significant project and staff supervision of staff.
  • ISO-specific experience desirable.
  • Intermediate competency in Windows operating environment using MS Office applications, e-mail and internet programs.
  • Required proficiency and experience in: IT Strategic Planning, IT Portfolio Management, IT Service Management (ITIL), IT Governance (CobiT), Architectural Frameworks (TOGAF, Zachman, Gartner), Enterprise Architecture Modeling, Business Process Modeling, Service Oriented Architecture, N-tier Architectures and Development Suites, DBMS (Oracle, MS SQL, EnterpriseDB), Enterprise Application Integration and Enterprise Service Bus Technology, Data Warehousing, Decision Support and Business Intelligence
  • CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: ITIL, TOGAF, CISSP, Project Management, Business Process Management certification a plus.
Education: Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Computer Science, Engineering; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
